HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATOR - AND STILL STAY STUPID

When communication goes wrong, we often don’t quite know why. It’s very tempting to think that we were saying the right things but were somehow misunderstood. In fact, the commonest cause of miscommunication is the failure to take note of the emotions in the background: the feelings that we and the other parties are experiencing but not saying, and which dramatically affect the way the words are perceived. The secret is acknowledging the emotions which is the central featrure of the C-L-A-S-S strategy for effective communication, now taught and used in medical schools, colleges and organizations all over the world.

In this presentation, Dr Buckman will show you how you can deal with emotions – and he uses humour to illustrate and illuminate his message. You really will start with laughter and end with learning.

The bottom line is simply this: If you can identify and acknowledge the emotions that are behind and are driving what the other person is saying, you really can become an effective communicator. And you can (if you wish) still stay stupid - or not, if you prefer!.

Dr Buckman can give this talk for medical audiences or for non-medical and corporate audience
